Notes on Fabric: For this class, we recommend choosing a stable, beginner-friendly fabric with a little structure. Although the Como Pant is designed for knit fabric, you do not need to use a knit for this class.
Recommended fabrics include:
Lightweight denim or chambray
Cotton twill or stretch twill
Lightweight to medium-weight corduroy
Cotton or cotton blends
Linen or linen blends
Stable French terry, sweatshirt or sweatpant fabric
Ponte knit or another stable, low-stretch knit
Cotton poplin for a lighter-weight pant
We would avoid very stretchy jersey or rib knits, spandex-heavy fabrics, rayon/viscose, silky or slippery fabrics, very lightweight fabrics, and heavy denim. While some of these fabrics can make beautiful pants, they can be more challenging to cut and sew when you're just learning.
How Much Fabric to Buy:
45" wide fabric: 3 yards
60" wide fabric: 2½ yards
We recommend purchasing a little extra rather than coming up short, especially when you're learning to lay out and cut a commercial pattern.
Not sure if your fabric will work? Reach out to us before purchasing! You can send us a photo or link to the fabric you're considering, and we're happy to help determine if it's a good choice for the class.
Notes on Sizing: The Style Arc Como Pant is available in different pattern size ranges, so make sure you purchase the pattern packet that includes your size. Sewing pattern sizing is different from standard store sizing, so participants should choose their pattern size based on their actual waist and hip measurements, rather than the size they typically purchase in stores.
Need help figuring out your measurements? There are lots of helpful videos on YouTube that demonstrate how to properly measure yourself. We recommend starting there—search “how to properly measure my waist and hips.”
If you still need help, reach out to us! We’re happy to help take your measurements and determine the best pattern size for you.
